LENT

During Lent, as usual, we are following the STATIONS OF THE CROSS every Saturday at 11.00am. Do come and join us!

DO MAKE SURE that the LENT PILGRIMAGE (March 20th) is in your diary. The preacher this year is Bishop Robert Ladds, formerly of Whitby, who was such a star at the Blessing of the Fisheries two years ago. The Pilgrimage starts at 10.00am and finishes at about 4.00pm - Morning Prayer, Mass, and Evening Prayer, and lots of time to be quiet - or to chat: as usual, there will be many other churches and Christians of the Catholic tradition from Canterbury and Rochester Dioceses.

Our LENT APPEAL is for the continuing relief work in Haïti. I hope to be able to send the money to the Sisters of St Margaret (the Walsingham nuns) who have a house there. Please take a collecting box if you have not already done so and bring it back (full, if possible) during Eastertide.

NEXT SUNDAY IS MOTHERING SUNDAY!

We shall be making posies and putting the finishing touches to the Simnel Cake on next Saturday, March 13th at 11.45am (after the Stations of the Cross). Everyone is welcome to come along and help. Children will be reading and doing the prayers, etc., at the 10.30am Mass on Mothering Sunday

PROPOSED ORDINARIATE

I do not need to remind you that the proposal to set up a special structure – an Ordinariate – for those who wish to take with them their Anglican inheritance (“Patrimony” is the word being used) when seeking reconciliation with the Apostolic See is

A VERY IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT

in the light of the forthcoming decision – and increasing resolution – of the Church of England to ordain women to the episcopate, and thus tragically and finally sever the threads that unite the fabric of our church to the Catholic Church. I have been asked to ask you to let me know if you are interested in exploring such an Ordinariate, as a way of bringing Anglicans into communion with the Apostolic See. Bishop Keith has asked me to do this. Several people have spoken to me – some expressing interest in taking their place in and Ordinariate, and others registering their unease with such a prospect. Please do continue to speak to me about this: the days in July draw ever nearer, when the General Synod will again discuss women bishops and the fate of traditionalists,

The second is that the internet users among you are encouraged (if you are interested in the Ordinariate) to register yourself as a Friend of the Ordinariate on:

http://www.friendsoftheordinariate.com/

This does not cost anything, nor does it commit you to anything, but registers your favourable interest.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

The adults meet on Sunday at 4.15pm; the children and young people’s classes continue on Wednesday, at 4.15pm, in Church. The confirmation will be on Wednesday, May 19th.
